Highlights from Grace Jones at the Hammerstein Ballroom

Saw the best concert ive seen in yrs last night, Grace Jones shut it down at The Hammerstien Ballroom in Nyc. Also saw some other characters in the mix, great outfits and a couple look alikes. Was a great time all around!!! Her line up of old tracks like "la Vie en Rose", "Strange ive seen that face before", "Love is A Drug" and for her finale of course "Pull up to the Bumper", had the ballroom in a frenzy each song she transformed looks and lighting.
Her Outfits were so insane i had to show everyone. Heres some of my photos. Shot out to Kelis in the building and congratson new baby Knight.

I found this very 2001 Space Odyssey/ Ultra Modern/ Conceptual design at the Met Muesuem the other day. It caught my eye because the british designer, born in Iraq in 1950, Zaha Hadid is someone Ive been a fan of for a long time her designs and structures are all over the world. She worked on both Karl Lagerfeld commissioned Chanel Capsules in Tokyo and New York last year. check out her stuff its worth it.

COLAB Season 3 Sunglasses

Season 3 of Australian cult sunglass brand COLAB. Once again the brand has enlisted several interesting artists from around the globe to collaborate with for Fall/Winter 2009. They worked with Will Sweeney, Deanne Cheuk, Mike Perry, Chris Hopkins, as well as The Presets and their longtime friend and artist Jonathan Zawada. The artist had complete freedom concerning design and silhouette, just like we are used to see from the brand. The sunglasses are coming to stores July 2009, including colette, Caliroots, Wood Wood and more.

Reebok continues their tribute collections to the late great Jean-Michel Basquiat with a couple of new sneaker releases showcasing the sportswear brand’s Top Down model. The kicks are given the Basquiat treatment with the use of the artists signature paintings printed on the uppers and contrasted with leather accents. The release is just a part of the Fall 2009 Collection which will see further inspired kicks. Both are now available via colette.

SPACE INVADERS: One small step for man, one giant leap for leather goods. July 20 marks the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11’s first lunar landing, but to commemorate, Louis Vuitton has created a custom-order “Malle Mars” trunk designed with a trip to Mars in mind. The aerodynamic trunk, which looks like something out of “Star Trek,” opens up to unveil compartments for all kinds of space necessities — from tool and pharmaceuticals drawers to shelves for dishware and even a folding chair to take in the views of Earth.

The trunk, as well as other NASA photographs, space toys, sculptures and astronomy photos, will be on view this Monday, when Louis Vuitton is celebrating the lunar landing’s anniversary with a party at the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History. Vuitton North America president and chief executive officer Daniel Lalonde is playing host with Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell and Sally Ride — the history-making astronauts who star in the company’s new core values campaign. For the occasion, Vuitton is donating an undisclosed sum to Al Gore’s Climate Project, and sales of the travel collection at the Fifth Avenue flagship from July 13 to 20 will benefit the organization. 

As for Mars, the only thing that is missing now is for Marc Jacobs to design the special Louis Vuitton space suit.

“Warm it up!” rapper Doug E. Fresh bellowed into the microphone as D.J. Ruckus filled the halls of the New York Public Library with deafening jams. Fresh was just one of the many performers, music honchos, and highly stylized trendsetters who had flocked to the Fifth Avenue institution to celebrate D.J. Cassidy’s 28th birthday last night. 

Cassidy Podell is one of the most sought-after D.J.’s in the music business, working parties from Hollywood to Capitol Hill; in fact, he was the official D.J. at President Barack Obama’s Inauguration Ball, in January. And D.J. Cassidy certainly draws a crowd. A slew of hip-hop royalty paid homage to the spin-master, including rappers Treach, from Naughty By Nature, Heavy D, Greg Nice, and R&B crooner Maxwell. Even Jay-Z and Nas showed up. 

The party was a throwback to throwdowns of the past, when the bass was heavy, the vibe was laid-back, and people actually danced—it certainly didn’t hurt that Belvedere provided cocktails honoring Cassidy’s music icon, Michael Jackson. (“Could I get one Smooth Criminal, P.Y.T., and Thriller, please?”)

Cassidy himself was hard to miss, clad in a fire-engine-red tuxedo and got on the mic to get the party started. “Ladies and gentlemen, will you dance with me please?” he asked the crowd. “Tonight is all about the music! We’re just gonna party!” 

First up was a performance by dance team and hip-hop collective the Retro Kids, who were outfitted in 80s and 90s gear complete with fades, chains, and flattops so authentic they looked like they break-danced straight out of a Kid ’n Play movie. In keeping with the old-school energy, Bobby Brown (yes, that Bobby Brown) hit the stage, performing long-lost hits such as “My Prerogative” and “On Our Own” for a crowd that included record-label tycoons Lyor Cohen and Benny Medina, British songstress Estelle, and D.J. Berrie.

But the highlight of the evening was a rare impromptu performance by the notoriously reclusive rapper Rakim. Regarded as one of the most influential founders of hip-hop, Rakim performed classics such as “Don’t Sweat the Technique” and “Juice” much to the mob’s delight. Even the usually reserved Paul Sevigny (owner of the shuttered Beatrice Inn) stripped down from his suit to a torn 1988 Rakim and Eric B. T-shirt to honor the legendary M.C. “I’ve been a huge fan of him for almost 20 years!” exclaimed Sevigny, while rocking out onstage.

And how did the birthday boy feel about the bash? “It was pretty overwhelming to celebrate with so many of my favorite artists,” he said, “but it’s a night I’ll never forget.”

On both Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th July, Sensation will reveal the full-on splendour of the new theme – Wicked Wonderland – in Amsterdam, and naturally tickets for these two events are white-hot property right now.
